Cobb + Co Museum, a must visit if in Toowoomba, is home to Australia’s finest collection of horse-drawn vehicles.
The National Carriage Collection features an extraordinary array of historic horse-drawn vehicles, including Cobb + Co coaches, farm wagons and delivery carts.
On show are some 47 types of vehicles that have all played a significant role in Queensland’s social and economic development and visitors can learn all about it through interactive displays and daily guided tours.
Here you’ll see omnibuses, carts and drays, buggies, sulkies and gigs and wagons as well as the legendary Cobb + Co coaches and the ornate “Rolls Royce of coaches” the Landau, a private coach of German origin which transported Princess Alexandra on her royal visits in 1959 and 1964.
In addition the museum’s onsite National Carriage Factory incorporates exhibition spaces and facilities for community use as well as a purpose-built, open plan working area that showcases Australia’s skilled master craftsmen.
Heritage trades workshops and accredited training programs are conducted here, including silversmithing, blacksmithing and leatherwork, with the opportunity for visitors to participate in the hands-on workshops.
The Cobb + Co Museum hosts all kinds of interactive and hands-on events and activities including the Hands On Workshops for all ages (including special School Holiday programs) and February’s popular Have a Go! Festival – an all ages family-friendly event where all ages can try their hand at traditional trades, skills and crafts.
Nice to know - For children there's an excellent Coach Stop Play Area featuring a replica horse to 'ride', story books, a General Store and a Cobb & Co coach to climb in.
